Clubs

Opportunities during and outside of the school day

AMBITION

Developing skills and talents

Clubs are an excellent opportunity to promote and develop a range of personal skills such as: working as part of a team, public speaking, designing, promoting and sharing new initiatives and making links within school and beyond. It also gives children the chance to learn and refine academic, social and emotional skills and techniques, and develop their own personal talents and aspirations.

IMPLEMENTATION

Opportunities on offer

Here at Preston Hedges, we offer a number of in-school groups and ambassadors that enable children to have a real voice in their school. These include:

  • Preston Podcast (our radio club)
  • Reading Club
  • Preston Paper
  • Equality and Diversity Champions
  • Eco-warriors
  • Wellbeing champions
  • School Choir
  • Preston Parliament

Whilst not all the children can be part of one of the school groups, aims and objectives for each club are designed to impact the whole school. One of the roles for those who are members is to be a voice for all pupils, which puts into practice some of the Modern British Values.  Additionally, there are other opportunities for those not part of a club to be involved through initiatives such as Listening Teas.

To enable our children to further develop their hobbies and talents, we also use a range of fantastic external providers to offer before and after school extra-currilcular clubs.

These include:

  • Freestyle Sports (offering a range including football, dance, gymastics, and archery to name just a few!)
  • Hotshots Basketball
  • Stylestarz Musical Theatre
  • Kidslingo Spanish Club
  • Creation Station (Art Club)
  • Coding Club
  • Rocksteady Music Club
  • NMPAT Music Lessons

IMPACT

Having a voice, building a talent

Children within our in school groups act as great ambassadors for the school, including promoting key messages and themes from the club to other children within the classroom and beyond. Members of the clubs also take part in activities within their meeting sessions, as well as make use of opportunities given to everyone in school, such as celebration days. They are able to explore things in greater detail which they then share back to the whole school and community.

Children who take part in external clubs enjoy building their talents and gaining greater self confidence!

Curriculum content is rigorously planned to ensure all children engage in lessons and consolidate their learning with clear intentions.

Throughout the school, each year group’s learning is documented and displayed through celebratory Floor Books where QR codes and final pieces of work demonstrate each topic’s implementation, progressive journey and learning impact.
